Original Medicare ‡ provides essential healthcare coverage but it can leave you with high out-of-pocket costs. A Medicare Supplement plan can help cover most of these costs, including copays, coinsurance, and deductibles.
Medicare Supplement insurance plans also provide flexibility so you can see any doctor or hospital in the U.S. that accepts Medicare patients. 1 And your plan goes with you even if you spend part of the year living in a different location.
With Anthem, your Medicare Supplement plan will work harder for you, with extra perks and programs like these:
To sign up for Medicare Supplement, you must have Original Medicare ‡ Parts A and B. Medicare Supplement insurance plans typically are standardized by the federal government. Each plan is named with a letter, like A, F, G, and N.* You'll pay a monthly premium (for example, between $102 - $226 ), 4 but it can help you control costs.
The following are brief descriptions of the four plans and benefits Anthem offers.
Most Basic Plan
With Plan A, you’ll pay a lower premium, but you’ll also have to pay a deductible when you go to the hospital. It covers basic benefits, plus some of the highest costs of Original Medicare, ‡ including Part A inpatient hospital copayments and coinsurance, Part B coinsurance, hospice care, and preventive care.
Broadest Coverage For Some
Plan F has the broadest coverage of Original Medicare ‡ out-of-pocket costs. You pay your monthly premium. Plan F helps cover Medicare deductibles, as well as some copayments and coinsurance. Medicare Supplement Plan F is only available to those who became eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020.
Broadest Coverage For most
Plan G has been one of our most popular plans, and offers the broadest coverage for most people. It will pay for out-of-pocket costs that Original Medicare ‡ doesn’t cover, except the Medicare Part B deductible.
Medicare Supplement Plan N offers a lower premium with some copays and a small annual deductible. Plan N may be your best option if you’re mainly concerned about covering Original Medicare ‡ Part A and Part B coinsurance costs.
After you are enrolled, you’ll need to continue paying your Original Medicare ‡ Part A and Part B premiums. For most people, Part A is $0 .
In select states, Anthem also offers Plan B and Select plans, as well as Innovative plans F, G, and N which include additional vision and hearing coverage along with access to the 24/7 NurseLine.

of Part B coinsurance
Except for certain copayments*
*Except for a copayment of up to $20 for some office visits and up to a $50 copayment for ER visits that don't result in an inpatient admission.
You can enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan anytime if you already have Original Medicare ‡ Part A and Part B. The best time to enroll is during the Medigap Open Enrollment Period, starting the first month you have Medicare Part B and you’re 65 or older.
When you enroll during this time, you cannot be denied coverage even if you have pre-existing health problems.
If you enroll later, you may be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition.
You also can enroll during your Initial Enrollment Period, starting three months before you turn 65, and ending three months after the month you turn 65.
Medicare Supplement plans do not include prescription drug coverage, and most do not include dental, vision, or hearing coverage. That’s why you should consider adding these benefits with Anthem standalone plans, including an Anthem Prescription Drug (Medicare Part D) plan for an additional premium.
Medigap, also known as Medicare Supplement insurance, helps fill "gaps" in Original Medicare ‡ and is sold by private insurance companies like Anthem. A Medicare Supplement insurance (Medigap) plan can help pay some of the remaining healthcare costs not covered by Original Medicare, ‡ like copays, coinsurance, and deductibles.
Most people choose Plan F, G, or N. Plan F is only available to those who became eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020.
The best plan for you may not be the most popular one. The right plan is the one that provides the benefits that meet your needs, with a monthly premium that works with your budget.
For those with Medicare Parts A and B, a Medicare Supplement plan can pay for out-of-pocket costs that Original Medicare ‡ doesn’t cover, including:
Your Medicare deductibles
The 20% coinsurance you pay for Part B medical services
Hospital costs after you run out of Medicare-covered days
Skilled nursing facility costs after you run out of Medicare-covered days
You can also go to any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare patients. 1
Once you’re enrolled, a Medicare Supplement plan can give you peace of mind knowing that your benefits are guaranteed as long as you pay your premiums.
Keep in mind that the plans with the most coverage will have higher premiums.
Additionally, Medicare Supplement plans do not include prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage, but stand-alone plans for these benefits can be purchased for an additional premium.
